Our economy will thrive under a free-enterprise system that is committed to such principles as less government and lower taxes. It is the government's job to provide essential services and infrastructure in a cost-effective manner. It is the hard-working individual citizen that is in the best position to create jobs and keep our economy vital and strong. As much money as possible should be left in the hands of the taxpayer. We must determine where and how we can cut our spending to balance our budget.
Small Business
More than 60% of our workforce is employed by small business; it is the economic backbone of our nation. I have been a small business owner for many years, so I am especially attuned to the challenges we face. The state and federal governments are hard on small business, often requiring excessive regulations and taxes. I will work to lessen this burden whenever possible. Because of my 100% voting record, in July, 2004 I was given the Guardian Award by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), which recognizes my efforts to strengthen small business.
